THE CAPACITY TO CARRY Why We Train Together at Findlay Movement
By Sarah Heringer

What do you do when life collapses?
You train for it before it ever happens.
That’s what we do here. That’s why we move together, lift together, breathe together. Not for aesthetics. Not for the illusion of control. But for the capacity to carry what life inevitably hands us.
You can download a workout. You can stream a class. You can ask an algorithm to build you a program. But no app can tether you to life when it falls apart.
This is not a gym. This is sacred ground.
And what we’re building here is not just strength—it’s capacity.
Why do we train?
Because every human body—every story, every age, every identity—needs the basics:
Push. Pull. Hinge. Squat. Jump.
Load the spine. Breathe hard. Move well. Stay mobile.
These are the biological truths of staying alive.
We train to stave off aging and arthritis. We train to stay metabolically sound in a modern world designed to make us sick. We train to protect our minds, preserve our energy, and feel fully alive in the bodies we’ve been given.
But we also train for the things we don’t see coming:
The loss of a partner
The loss of a job
The loss of safety or identity or control
We train to carry those things, too.
A coach tethers you.
A community anchors you.
A good coach helps you lift more.
A great coach helps you keep showing up.
Patrick was my husband. But he was also my coach—and for many of you, your coach too. He built this place with his voice, his vision, and his belief in people. He never saw training as a numbers game. He saw it as a capacity game. And he designed programs not to perfect bodies—but to strengthen humans.
That ethos lives on here. And it always will.
Because when I was shattered, this community held me. And I’ve watched it do the same for others:
The woman who returned after her cancer diagnosis, not to perform—but to belong.
The man who lost his partner and showed up the next morning just to be seen.
The mom who left an abusive marriage and used our barbells to reclaim her body.
We don’t just build strong people.
We build people strong enough to walk each other home.
This is not fitness for performance.
This is fitness for life.
We are not a place for fad diets, perfectionism, or performative fitness.
We are not a revolving door.
We are a collective. A sanctuary. A home.
What we do here is ancient, even if the branding looks modern.
We build capacity—for ourselves, and for one another.
And we believe that capacity is what will save us.
Cincinnati doesn’t need another gym. It needs a movement that can carry people through life.
That’s what Findlay Movement is.
If this speaks to you, start with a conversation.
We don’t do drop-ins. We don’t do generic groups.
Everyone begins with a free one-on-one consultation with a coach.
It’s how we learn your story, your goals, and what’s getting in your way—so we can actually help.
We’re not for everyone. But if you’re ready to build something real, we’re ready for you.
If you’re a member already, share this with someone who needs to read it.
