Meet Our Coaches:

Dr. Anya Cox - Head Coach and General Manager

Dr. Anya Cox

Owner, Head Coach and General Manager

I'm a physical therapist and head coach at Findlay Movement, and I believe this community is doing something that traditional healthcare rarely gets right: meeting people where they are and building health that actually lasts.

After more than a decade in outpatient orthopedics, I became convinced that lasting change comes from consistent effort that can start in the clinic but has to continue outside of it. That belief is what brought me to Findlay Movement, first as a member in 2022, and eventually as a coach and co-owner.

My background is in treating lifters and fitness athletes across all ages and stages, and that work shapes everything about how I coach. I don't believe in age limits on athleticism. I've seen people in their 60s discover strength they didn't know they had, and I've helped athletes manage chronic pain long enough to remember why they loved movement, or to find a newfound love for it they didn't have before. Whether you're brand new to this, frustrated with programs that haven't stuck, or navigating an injury that traditional care hasn't been able to resolve, that's exactly the work I'm here for.

When I'm not coaching, I'm usually outside somewhere with my husband and our three silly dogs. He calls me a plant. He's not wrong. I'm also an avid reader and lifelong learner, lately with a deepening focus on breathwork, meditation, and somatic healing.

I used to train for the scoreboard.
Now, I train for something deeper.

I grew up a three-sport athlete in Minnesota and played basketball in college — competition was the only lens I had for fitness. But when that phase ended, I found myself in limbo. I had no reason to train, and no clear direction for what strength was supposed to look like anymore. That changed in 2016, when I became a seasonal big game hunting guide in the mountains of northern Alaska. Fifty days at a time, carrying everything you need, with no backup — it requires a different level of fitness. One you earn. One you carry forward. That’s when I found functional training. It started with kettlebells, and over time, it became something more — structure, rhythm, purpose. I now hold two kettlebell certifications and coach with the same tools that rebuilt my own path forward. At Findlay Movement, I fell in love with the holistic coaching model and the power of group connection. Here, we don’t just train to perform — we train to live well. If you’re looking for coaching that meets you where you are, with practical tools that work — I’m here for that.See you on the floor.

I spent years searching for a fitness routine that actually stuck — bouncing between pilates, barre, HIIT, and the kind of gym that keeps you moving but leaves you feeling like something is missing. My relationship with movement started much earlier, as a competitive dressage rider where everything revolved around strength, balance, and body awareness both in the saddle and doing the hard work of farm life. That foundation never left me, but it took a long time to find a space that honored it. My most consistent anchor through all of it has been yoga — a practice I've kept returning to for over 20 years, and one I've now formalized through Ignite Yoga's Roots 300-hour teacher training.

Finding Findlay Movement changed things for me, and not just in the gym. As someone who knows firsthand what it feels like to carry the weight of a demanding desk job — the tension, the stillness, the slow creep of imbalance — I understand what it means to want more than surface-level fitness. Outside the gym, that balance shows up in the life I actually want to live: big hikes with my partner and dogs, hauling a fishing kayak, caring for my horse, and yes — carrying stacks of fantasy and fiction novels, because a strong back supports a serious reading habit. I believe everyone deserves to feel capable enough to show up fully in their own story. I realized that the mindfulness and holistic perspective of yoga didn't have to live separately from strength-based training. I can't wait to help you write the next chapter of your story.

I am a father, husband, and destroyer of dad bod. I say that jokingly but I view the dad bod as the cultural normalization of an unhealthy lifestyle. I’ve fought it my throughout my adult life and I know many others have as well. I grew up playing sports and was constantly active but as soon as I left high school I was suddenly responsible for keeping up a fitness routine on my own with no guidance. I looked for information wherever I could but it was hard to find.

When I found Findlay Movement, it was like finding an oasis of knowledge and support in the wilderness. The community is super welcoming which made it easy for me to come to the the gym and establish a routine. When I was offered the opportunity to be a part of that, I jumped at the chance. I have a masters degree in social work so I see how much having someone in your corner can help you grow and create healthy habits. I love supporting people when things are frustrating, and celebrating when things go well. I want to work with people who are committed to long term health and know that means showing up consistently and doing the work.

I never thought of myself as a natural athlete. Walking into a gym for the first time felt intimidating; new movements, unfamiliar language, and the quiet fear of getting it wrong. I remember what it's like to struggle through learning a lift, to feel awkward before things click, and to wonder if you really belong there. That experience shaped the coach I've become. Because I also know the other side: the mental clarity, physical strength, and deep confidence that grow when you stay with the challenge long enough to discover what you're truly capable of.

I work with people from all starting points, from those stepping onto the floor for the first time to experienced athletes refining their skills, with progressions and modifications that meet your body where it is today. My coaching is grounded in simple, effective fundamentals: strength that carries into daily life, conditioning that builds resilience, and movement patterns that help you feel more capable in and out of the gym. Whether your goal is to lift heavier, move better, keep up with your kids, or feel stronger and more confident as you age, I’m your coach. Progress isn't reserved for the naturally gifted, it's built through patience, curiosity, and consistency, and it's available at any age and any starting point.

What drew me to Findlay Movement is the way the community sits at the center of everything. People show up as they are, work hard together, and celebrate progress in all its forms. My goal is to create a space where you feel supported enough to try, struggle, learn, and grow and to help you build strength that serves you for decades to come, well beyond the gym walls.

I started Functional Fitness in 2016, right here at Findlay Movement! The supportive community and constant challenge is what has kept me coming back. My love for helping others drew me to pursue coaching in 2019. I love watching members achieve their goals and become stronger, healthier versions of themselves.

Outside of the gym, I am an engineer by trade. I work as a Technical Account Manager for a tech startup. In my free time I love to cook, ride my bike and play tennis. I live in the heart of OTR with my adorable cat named Leila.

I’ve been all about sports and staying active for as long as I can remember, and it’s something I’m super passionate about. I actually ended up going to LSU (geaux tigers!) and got my degree in Kinesiology. While I was there, I had this amazing opportunity to work with some really top-notch athletes and see them perform at their best. But, it’s not just about athletes for me; I’ve also worked with people who just want to stay fit and healthy for their families. Whether it’s athletes or family folks, the common thread is that they’re all motivated and serious about their health. I’m a big believer that seeking health should be a part of your daily routine, and it shouldn’t feel like a chore.

When we work together, we’re in it for the long haul. I’ll be right there with you through the highs and the lows, cheering you on and pushing you to be your best. Everyone’s needs are different, but that’s the beautiful thing. I’m here to meet you wherever you’re at in your fitness journey, but I don’t want us to stay there. I want to see you consistently showing up, reaching your goals, and really going beyond just the physical appearance. No matter where you’re at in life, let’s team up and build a stronger, healthier you together.
